چکیده

purpose: to measure corneal power using different methods to assess agreement between these methods among patients who underwent photorefractive keratotomy. methods: in this prospective comparative study, keratometry was measured in 66 eyes of 33 refractive surgery candidates using manual keratometry (kr), conventional topography average central corneal power (accp), galilei total corneal power (tcp), orbscan ii and eye sys (effrp). corneal power was also calculated using clinical history method (chm) and two corneal power formula (adjusted accp and adjusted effrp). the readings by these instruments and methods were compared using t-test. agreement among the measurements by three devices was assessed using pearson (r) and intraclass correlation coefficients (icc). linear regression analysis was used to quantify this correlation. results: the values for chm were correlated with all keratometric methods and corneal power formulas. however, postoperative kr, accp, orbscan ii and effrp were higher than chm. (-0.58±0.63, -0.55±0.66, -0.51±0.62, -0.36±0.62, respectively, p<0.001). chm demonstrated the least mean difference with tcp, adjusted accp and adjusted effrp (0.17±0.77, -0.14±0.63, 0.07±0.63, respectively). chm had narrowest limit of agreement with adjusted effrp and adjusted accp (-1.16 to 1.3, -1.37 to 1.09, respectively). conclusion: chm has the least mean difference with tcp, adjusted accp and adjusted effrp. however, the narrowest limits of agreement were between chm and adjusted effrp; and chm and adjusted accp.

Corneal epithelial recovery following photorefractive keratectomy.

AIMS To further understand the morphological and functional recovery of corneal epithelium following excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS The right eyes (group 1) of 15 male, New Zealand white rabbits weighing 2-3 kg underwent PRK. The left eye of each rabbit (group 2) underwent simple mechanical de-epithelialisation and were examined as treated controls. Both eyes of anot...

Risk Assessment for Corneal Ectasia following Photorefractive Keratectomy

PURPOSE To analyze the risk factors associated with a series of ectasia cases following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and all published cases. METHODS In a retrospective study on post-PRK ectasia patients, 9 eyes of 7 patients were included, in addition to 20 eyes of 13 patients from the literature. Risk of post-PRK ectasia was calculated using the ectasia risk score system (ERSS) for las...

Corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy.

Two patients developed corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Case 1 had evidence of early keratoconus preoperatively, with manifest refractions of -4.00 +2.50 x 160 (20/20) in the right eye and -7.00 +3.00 x 180 (20/30) in the left eye; thin corneas (472 microm and 441 microm, respectively); and inferior paracentral steepening in the right eye and central steepening in the le...

Accuracy of Different Topographic Instruments in Calculating Corneal Power after Myopic Photorefractive Keratectomy

PURPOSE To compare the corneal power measurements obtained using different topographic instruments after myopic photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS Patients with myopia who were candidates for corneal refractive surgery were sequentially included. Pre-PRK and six months post-PRK corneal powers were measured using Javal manual keratometer, Orbscan II, Galilei, Tomey TMS4, and EyeSys 200...

PURPOSE To describe a case of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) to correct myopia. METHODS We performed PRK in both eyes of a 20-year-old girl to correct myopia. Refractive error was -4.75 -2.25 × 5 in the right eye and -5.00 -1.25 × 180 in the left eye. Metamorphopsia was noticed by the patient in the right eye one month after the surgical procedu...

Orthoptic Changes following Photorefractive Keratectomy

PURPOSE To report orthoptic changes after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS This interventional case series included 297 eyes of 150 patients scheduled for PRK. Complete ophthalmologic evaluations focusing on orthoptic examinations were performed before and 3 months after PRK. RESULTS Before PRK, 2 (1.3%) patients had esotropia which remained unchanged; 3 (2%) patients had far exot...
